Dancing With The Stars Rules Explained

This week the couples who had the most entertaining routines were bashed by the judges for breaking the rules. Here is Len Goodman's explanation:

Yeah, the whole "Strictly Ballroom" turn this has taken is really annoying me. Do they really want to make "proper" ballroom appear rigid and boring, as something you need to spice up, but can't? It's not good for our image. All they need to do is calmly and rationally explain the "one foot/one beat" rule for lifts & tricks, and not go all psycho about disrespecting the rules.

I also think they partially did this so that no one couple would blow everyone else away. It makes the field seem a little more open and unpredictable, at least to the average viewer.

Oh, and when did this competition become International only? As a smooth competitor, I'm offended. B/c though I don't remember if both Karina's feet left the floor at any time in her and Mario's routine, the bulk of their open work was simply a very high-level American Smooth Tango. Can't break hold... puh-lease. In quickstep I can understand, they deserved to get slammed for that, but not in the tango. They never specified that it was international-only, and can't say no American style after requiring mambo last week, and allowing Smooth Foxtrot the first week.

On a lighter note, I'm THRILLED that Max & Willa made it. Once I saw they got bottom 2/3 the first two episodes I knew I have to use all my votes on them to help keep them in. They are a solid couple and she's a great dancer. Hey, she was the only celeb in the jive who even attempted to pick up her knees. She just doesn't have a fan base like the others do. Hehe, I'm a fan of cowboy boots, but if you jive in them, you can't point your toes... so as cute as Sara's routine was, her feet bothered me.

So yeah, the judges need to lighten up - not on the rules, but on their delivery. And YAY for Max & Willa! Keep voting!

I'm glad about Willa & Max also!! She is my favorite female- and the strongest female dancer in my opinion- with Monique being good as well. Willa, Monique, Joey and Mario are my favorites, with Mario being the aboslute favorite. I like Emmit and Vivica but I dont think they are as strong overall- and Vivica seems to be getting cocky.....

As for Sara, oh my...I know shes trying hard but there is no excitement or passion in her dancing- shes cute- but cautiously cute. But her fan base is huge- it would just be disappointing if she continuously beats out the more talented dancers and dynamic performers- esp. when the field gets smaller. But then again, maybe she will come out and wow me next week!

I like Willa and Max too! All their dances have been really good so far, and I like their partnership a lot.

But about Sara...none of her dances have wowed me, and I didn't like their jive. Like you said, her kicks were terrible in those boots. And actually, that whole dance seemed more like a freestyle/country routine than a jive.

For those interested- If you go to ABCs DWTS site- under blogs- Bruno's blog about this past week's show explains some of the rules of the competition and each dance in more detail. I would just post the hyperlink but I dont think I am allowed

I agree with all of you. Mario is SMOKIN and so is Joey. I particuarly love Karina and the chemistry between her and Mario. I can't believe the judges got so cranky. SIX? GMAFB. Dock him to a nine maybe, but that was a 10 performance all day long. It's so obvious to the viewers that the judges are biased against Mario and Joey because they are cocky.

I think it was awesome how Monique recovered from her wardrobe malfunction. I mean she was able to pull off a great fast paced dance after her whole butt popped out in front of millions. That and the jump in the beginning. Thats a big risk there.
